Product introduction

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is considered as an effective method to control particulate matter (PM) emissions from diesel engines, which is included in the mandatory installation list by more and more national/regional laws and regulations, such as CHINA VI, Euro VI, and EPA Tier3.

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) Ceramic Substrate with alternate blocked cell design, which lead and force the gas flow through the micropore cell wall, the Median Pore Size is 13±3um;

When the diesel-powered engine exhaust gas flow in open cell, flow through the wall and flow out from the next open cell. Oversized Particulate Matter (PM) will be trapped by the porous hole of filter walls.

However, a vehicle is meant to generate a lot of soot and the DPF system might not be able to hold it all. Therefore, the DPF needs to regenerate (empty itself) to prevent blockage.

Apart from passive regeneration and active regeneration, burn off the excess soot in the filter by increasing the exhaust temperature or injecting extra fuel regularly, there is another DPF regeneration technology, called intermittent regeneration. Intermittent regeneration applies a reverse jet flow, for example, a high-temperature dust collector is equipped with the heatproof honeycomb ceramic filter, shown as below Figure, PM in the diesel exhaust gas is accumulated in the ceramic filter and monitored by the pressure difference of the filter. When the pressure difference reaches a threshold value, compressed air is reversely injected into the filter, thus PM is detached from the filter by injection and collected in the dust collector. This process is performed regularly and automatically to complete DPF regenerations.

If the vehicle is with a DPF regeneration failure, it means your diesel particulate filter might be blocked, too much soot accumulated on the filter and clogged the filter. To unclog the filter, it needs remove the accumulated soot manually, replace the filter in some cases. If you are not confident at doing it on your own then going to the mechanic is your best bet.
